About Dr. James H. Johnson

Dr. James Johnson is Ivy League Medical School educated and received a military scholarship to attend a dual medical school program at Dartmouth Medical School and Brown University Program in Medicine. He graduated in 1991. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps and completed a 1 year Transitional Internship program at Madigan Army Medical Center and then then served for 4 years in Schweinfurt, Germany as a Brigade Surgeon. After completing his military obligation, Dr. Johnson attended the Ophthalmology Residency Program at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City and graduated from there in 1999.

He has worked for other practices as a general and comprehensive ophthalmologist first in the Palm Springs, CA desert region before returning closer to his original home in Orange County, California. In 2005, Dr. Johnson began concentrating his time as a refractive surgery specialist performing both PRK and LASIK, and opened his own LASIK practice, Orange Coast Laser Vision Center, in Irvine, CA in 2007.

As part of the LASIK practice, he started treating eye floaters and found that it was often a life altering improvement for these patients who had nowhere else to go for relief.

After a year, Dr. Johnson decided that there was a significant need for the treatment of floaters that was not being fulfilled at any level among the eye care profession. He closed the LASIK practice to concentrate exclusively on the treatment of eye floaters with the additional goal of furthering the knowledge and technology regarding their treatment.

Dr. Johnson is the only physician in the world  with a practice dedicated to the treatment of eye floaters. This exclusive attention to this relatively rare procedure has allowed him to establish himself as arguably the most experienced and skilled eye surgeon in this field. Dr Johnson is not only dedicated but also passionate in his commitment and it is evident in every interaction with his patients.

On a personal note, Dr. Johnson was very active in endurance sports and was an All-American age-group triathlete. Now, he has turned to a newer sports obsession – tennis. Dr. Johnson is also interested in nutritional science as well as the practical application – preparing and sharing a good meal with good company.
